ToneBender SOLA Mk III Fuzz
The Vox Tone Bender MKIII, introduced in 1968, is a legendary fuzz pedal produced as an OEM product by Sola Sound in the UK. This model represents a significant evolution in the Tone Bender series, most notably for adding a dedicated tone control, which was missing from its predecessors. This feature allows musicians to sweep between thick, bass-heavy saturation and sharp, treble-focused fuzz. Internally, the MKIII underwent several circuit changes. Classic versions utilized a three-transistor germanium circuit, often featuring OC75 or similar transistors, known for delivering warm, harmonically rich, and touch-sensitive tones. Later mid-1970s iterations transitioned to silicon transistors, adopting a circuit more akin to the Big Muff Pi. Famous for its association with Jimmy Page during the early years of Led Zeppelin, the MKIII is housed in a distinctive, large pressed steel or cast aluminum enclosure. It remains a "holy grail" for collectors seeking authentic vintage British fuzz.
