CP-830 Compressor Sustain
The Ibanez CP-830 Compressor Sustain is a rare, vintage analog effects pedal manufactured in Japan by Maxon between 1974 and 1977. Renowned for its clear and transparent compression, the CP-830 is designed to even out dynamics and enhance sustain without heavily coloring the instrument's natural tone. It features a simple two-knob interface for Sustain and Level, making it intuitive to operate. Technical highlights include an LDR optical compression circuit utilizing a Vactrol and a 741 opamp, which contributes to its signature smooth, musical response and warm character. This "narrow-box" pedal is highly sought after by collectors for its organic feel and association with early boutique-style performance. Unlike modern units, the original CP-830 operates strictly on internal 9V battery power and lacks a DC jack. It is particularly favored for clean tone shaping in genres such as funk, country, and jazz, providing consistent volume levels and reduced peaks while maintaining touch-sensitive dynamics.
